5Fun dispenser if cats learn to use it!Apr 12, 2008
By Gina B "It's a dry heat!"
Watch Video Here: http://www.amazon.com/review/REX0P4E7TSG2I This made a great conversation piece when friends came over, but none of the cats in my household ever learned how to use it. Daily I'd take time to show them how it worked and put their paws on it's tread-wheel, but none of them ever caught on. However, daily they would sit in front of it and cry for me to come use the wheel to make the treats come out! I also found the unit was designed poorly - after the treats drop into the tray, there's barely enough room for the cats to stick their heads under the wheel to get them. Most of the time they raked the treats out of the tray onto the floor with their paws to eat them. Overall, I don't think anyone should consider this as a solution for cats who beg for treats.

EDIT: One of my new cats did learn how to use this after 1 day of trying to break into it, even though I'd still only give it 2 stars. I posted a video of it on YouTube (try searching for "Belle getting her own treats". I also posted a video review here on Amazon.

EDIT: I originally wrote this review in 2008. My one cat who still uses this as of June 2011 loves it so much I had to buy another one when the wheel finally broke after 4 years of daily use. It's really a score if your cat learns how to use it!

5My cats love this toy!!May 21, 2006
By Amie
My two cats learned to use this within a couple of days. One uses his paws to turn the wheel, and the other one uses his face. They love it! And it is very entertaining to watch them get their own treats. I recommend it to any cat owner.

2DisappointedDec 21, 2011

"Be Warned" Yes this is a clever idea at first glance. Unfortunately the product does not work efficiently and the company does not back up their product return. Due to the large quantity of food coming out at one time the company advised that we take the dispenser apart and move the dial to a desired setting (why isn't this in the instructions? wait...there are no instructions). They said we could return the dispenser if we still had problems but would first need to call. We tried their suggestion and unfortunately same result. We made numerous calls about a return and were told each time that they had to check with the supervisor and would get back to us. Still waiting. . . Anyway, will be passing it along to someone else who allows their pet to eat large amounts of food all day. By the way, any cat who eats all day will have major gastrointestinal problems! What a mess!

4Best self feeder for catsOct 03, 2010
By catlover395
I have used this style of feeder for my cats for over 20 years and they always love it. Every cat I have shown how to get the food figures it out in a day or two. If you get frustrated and keep showing them, of course they will get spoiled and want you to do it. They can also learn from each other. It helps keep the food fresh, gives the cat a bit of exercise and a treat for using their mind. They can reach in with their face or paw the food towards the outside of the small bowl to eat it. That is how cats usually eat with their paws catching bugs and mice. I turn the lid on top upside down (and screw it down)for ease of daily fillings as I only have one cat now and still put 1/2 C of food in it for night time feeding. Not only is it worth the price for the cats entertainment, but also for the owner.
The only negative is sometimes the carpet on the wheel has to be reglued on or replaced as cats really use their claws to turn it. Maybe once every year or two depending on use.

5My cats loved thisJan 19, 2009

My two cats loved this dispenser. Both learned how to use it within the first two days of bringing it home. I always kept their favorite dry food in it and left ot out on the kitchen counter, I guess they like being allowed to jump up to the counter and hang out with me while I was working. Whatever their motivation, we all enjoyed it. Best of all it doesn't leave a mess, they eat a little bit at a time and none is left out to become stale or for insects to get into.
